MISSION:
The Roy Romer School for Advanced Studies provides high-quality differentiated instruction with an emphasis on depth, complexity, acceleration and novelty for gifted learners. Gifted students engage in high-level academic opportunities that meet their unique educational needs identified in the Intellectual, High Achievement, Specific Academic, Creative and Leadership Ability categories or verified based on critical thinking/achievement.
OPPORTUNITIES:
- Students will explain meanings or relationships among facts, information or concepts that demonstrate depth and complexity.
- Students will formulate new ideas or solutions and elaborate on the information.
- Students will use alternative methods in approaching new or unfamiliar mathematical problems.
- Students will use extensive vocabulary easily and accurately to express creative ideas.

EXPECTATIONS:
- Students will write journal entries related to their goals.
- Students will showcase their learning at the end of each year.
- Students will embrace the Student Learning Outcomes and use them as a guidepost for all activities.
MEMBERS: (SAS applicants must meet at a minimum one of three eligibility criteria)
- Students identified as gifted in L.A. Unified in the Intellectual, High Achievement, Specific Academic, Creative, or Leadership Ability Category
- Students who scored in the “Standard Exceeded” range on the SBAC assessment in English Language Arts and Mathematics or have TOTAL national scores of 85% or above on a District- approved standardized achievement test (e.g., OLSAT-8) in required areas (most recent year only)
- Students who demonstrate mastery of ALL FOUR of the critical thinking and problem-solving skills in their primary language as described under the “opportunities” section above.
Our very successful School for Advanced Studies has been renewed by LAUSD's office of Gifted and Talented Programs for an additional five more years. All school in LAUSD that had an SAS program previously or those desiring to apply for the first time, submitted plans in December of 2015. Roy Romer was selected to continue its SAS program alongside our honors and regular program. Our school is growing exponentially! Three years ago we added a STEM Magnet, and last year we added a Gifted Magnet and configured our school into three Academies as well. There are now more choices than ever for parents and students to choose a quality education at Roy Romer Middle School!!
Nuestra exitosa escuela de Estudios Avanzados ha sido renovada por cinco años adicionales como anuncio la oficina del LAUSD de Dotados y Talentosos. Todas las escuelas en el LAUSD que tenían un programa SAS o aquellos que quisieron solicitar uno por primera vez, presentaron aplicaciones en diciembre de 2015. La secundaria Roy Romer Middle School fue elegida para continuar su programa SAS junto con nuestro programa honores y estudios regulares. Hace tres años añadimos un escuela magnet de Ciencia, Tecnologia, Ingeniera y Matematicas. El año pasado añadimos la escuela Magnet para estudiantes dotados, y el año pasado tambien reconfiguramos nuestra escuela en tres academias. Ahora ya hay más opciones que nunca para que los padres y los estudiantes puedan elegir una educación especifica y de calidad en la Escuela Secundaria Roy Romer!
